(Before McQueen’s SS10 Runway Show)
Nick Knight (interviewer): I’ve always wondered where your fascination with the macabre comes from.
Mr. McQueen: I think it’s important to look at death, if it comes under that word, ”macabre,” because I think it’s part of life. I’ve always had a fascination with the Victorian view of death, when they used to take pictures of the dead — it’s not about brushing under the carpet like we do today, it’s more like celebrating someone’s life and I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I think it’s a very sad thing, death, a melancholic thing, but I think it’s a very romantic thing because I think it’s an end of a cycle. Everything has an end. The cycle of life is a positive thing because it gives room for new things to come behind you.
