Words cannot describe how amazing this space is.  From the very eclectic nature of its makeup to the seeming simplicity of Harry Seidler’s Constructivism, this apartment is just Wow.

Situated right next to Luna Park, screaming kids and all, the place is practically camouflaged with the rest of Milson’s Point - slightly dirty if anything, but the curved balconies and beautifully-cast concrete serve as cues to what can be seen from the inside.

The two-storey penthouse/apartment space was a home to Seidler, which has been kept ever-so-carefully-well since he sadly passed away.  As you enter through a series of preliminary, progressively larger (though small) rooms, the space opens up to this beautiful double-height space that beautifully indulges you in this lightness.  Lightness from light, the curved forms of the space and the open plan of the bottom floor contrast with the wall that extends right to the ceiling - drawing your eye up to the extravagant (though unappealing by my tastes) artwork displayed.

As a space it seems to have evolved into a more personal rendition of a gallery space; objects of all kinds and artworks from the likes of Roy Lichtenstein to Picasso hang in all sorts of places around the apartment.  To know that Seidler resided there begs the question of why he brought a mixed bag of highly sought-after art to a space which makes a statement by itself.

Amazing architecture is inspiring; awful architecture deterring.  Someday I’ll hope to create something that positively affects and respects its occupants, so that the people inside will respect their surrounds.  Architecture can only become Architecture if it is ‘embodied ideology’, and so I’m envisioning a future where people can find a place in their hearts for something new, inspiring and meaningful in the built environment.

…and on a side note, wishing you a very Merry Christmas! I probably won’t be on my computer this weekend so have a fun time celebrating the most celebrated birthday (of Jesus Christ ;) ) of all time and may you have a fantastic start to 2011!

Oh gosh.  2011.  E-lev-en.  Wow.
